Right-angle Collimating Lens Holder
The 74-90-UV features a mirror located under its cap that reflects light from the collimating lens to 90°. The mirror is coated with a UV-enhanced aluminum substrate that is >80% reflective from 200-1000 nm. In addition, the 74-90-UV has two 3/8-24 threaded ports -- at top and bottom -- that accommodate collimating lenses. The top port has a 3/8" x 1" threaded nipple (at right in photo above right) that can be removed for a connecting to a male adapter. The 74-90-UV was conceived, in part, as a solution to an optical interface challenge involving a stack emission application. The experiment was straightforward -- a simple transmission measurement through the stack emission, using one optical fiber and collimating lens combination for illumination and another such combination for collection. The challenge involved mounting the collimating lenses at the open end of the sloping stack without the optical fibers bending, which would adversely affect the fiber's transmission characteristics. With 74-90-UV Right Angle Reflectors mounted on the lip of the stack opening, the customer was able to run optical fibers flush to each side of the stack, using the Right Angle Reflectors at the top to hold the lenses in place for the measurement.
