Color Filters for LCDs and Microdisplays

RGB Filter Wheel

Ocean Thin Films produce RGB and other precision color filters using a proprietary Dichroic Filter Array (DFA) technology that delivers increased optical performance and better durability than gel-filter and other familiar technologies. With the DFA process, color filters can be produced with micron-scale precision patterning that yields sharper, brighter colors.

About the Technology

The Dichroic Filter Array technology pioneered by Ocean Thin Films makes possible the microlithographic patterning of dichroic thin films onto various optical and microelectronic substrates. The remarkable technique allows us to pattern an array of discrete dichroic filters to a size of 2 µm, with 1-µm spacing. This high-precision patterning can be applied to whatever filtering configuration the customer requests, and provides color filtering, spatial resolution, transmission efficiency and filter durability that's superior to dye-colored gels and other commonly used filtering technologies.
